Wanderloop Privacy Policy

Last updated:

Wanderloop plans walking loops and guides you along them. It is built so that your data stays on your phone. There are no accounts, no analytics and no ads, and we never see where you walk.

Location

Wanderloop uses your location to plan loops that start and end where you are, to guide you along a loop and, while a walk you started is in progress, to record the path you walked. Your location is processed on your device. It is used in the background only during a walk you started, so guidance continues with the screen locked.

Apple services

To compute walking directions, find places and show street-level imagery, the app sends locations to Apple Maps through Apple’s MapKit. To show the weather on a past walk, it sends that walk’s location and time to Apple Weather. Apple’s handling of these requests is described in Apple’s privacy policy. Weather data is provided by Apple Weather (with a link to its data sources in the app).

Trail data (OpenStreetMap)

To let loops follow forest paths and marked hiking trails, Wanderloop downloads OpenStreetMap map data for the area around your start from our trail server, which runs on Google Cloud in Warsaw, Poland. The request contains only a map area: a point near your start, rounded to about 100 metres, and a radius. It contains no account, no identifier, no history and nothing about your walks, though like any web request it reaches the server from your device’s IP address. Our server does not log these requests and stores nothing about them. If our server is unavailable or doesn’t cover your area yet, the app makes the same request to a public OpenStreetMap Overpass server instead. Downloaded map data is cached on your device for up to two weeks. You can turn this off in Settings › Hiking trails and paths. Loops then use Apple Maps only. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License.

What is stored on your device

  • Loops you were shown and loops you walked, so new loops can avoid streets you already know.
  • The GPS trace, distance, time, pace and your “How was it?” tags for each walk you start.
  • Your preferences, such as distance, pace, units, route options and reminder time.

This data stays in the app’s storage on your phone, and in your iCloud or device backup if you have backups turned on. You can delete any walk or suggestion in the app’s Settings, and deleting the app removes everything.

Apple Health (optional)

If you turn on “Save walks to Health”, finished walks are written to Apple Health as walking workouts with their route. Wanderloop never reads data from Apple Health. You can turn this off in the app or in Health › Sharing › Apps.

Reminders

The optional daily reminder is scheduled on your device. No server is involved.

Sharing and exports

When you share a loop, a walk poster or a GPX file, it goes only where you send it. Nothing is shared without your action.

Feedback

If you send feedback, it’s an ordinary email from your mail app to me@xebyte.pl. The app adds its version, your iOS version and your device model. Feedback emails are kept only as long as needed to act on them.

Data we collect

None. Wanderloop has no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no third-party SDKs, and we don’t sell or share data. Apple may provide us with crash reports and usage statistics if you have agreed to share them with developers in iOS settings; Apple anonymises them.

This website

This website uses no cookies, analytics or trackers. It is hosted on Firebase Hosting (Google), which processes IP addresses to deliver pages and protect against abuse.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to complain to the supervisory authority (in Poland: Prezes Urzędu Ochrony Danych Osobowych, uodo.gov.pl). We keep no personal data on our servers; everything else is on your phone, where you can delete it in the app. For anything else, including feedback emails, write to me@xebyte.pl.

Children

Wanderloop isn’t aimed at children and collects no personal data from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new date.
